Children's 'Main Street Drag' Sunglasses Recalled by StyleMark
Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. (To access color photos of the following recalled products, see CPSC's Web site at www.cpsc.gov.)

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from more than 15,000 types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. Deaths, injuries and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $800 billion annually. The CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard. The CPSC's work to ensure the safety of consumer products - such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters, and household chemicals - contributed significantly to the decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 30 years.

Importer/Distributor: StyleMark Inc., of Ormond Beach, Fla.
Hazard: Surface paint in the orange lettering on the temples of the sunglasses contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled children's sunglasses have Main Street Drag characters on the bottom of one lens. The sunglass frames have dark metallic blue or dark metallic red fronts and gray checkered sides. "Main Street Drag" is printed in orange at the temples. Style number DI25K7116 is printed on the left temple.¬Ý No other styles are included in this recall.

Sold at: Payless, Walgreen's, Academy Sports, and CVS stores nationwide from October 2007 through March 2008 for between $6 and $9.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled sunglasses away from children and contact StyleMark for instructions on returning the sunglasses for a free replacement pair.

Why are these products being recalled?

StyleMark is recalling certain styles of its children's sunglasses because the orange lettering of the words "Main Street Drag" on the temples contains lead in excess of CPSC regulations.

Which products are included the recall?

Only the Style #DI25K7116 sunglasses with the words "Main Street Drag" are recalled. Style #DI25K7116 sunglasses with "Lightning McQueen" in silver lettering on the temples are not being recalled.

Does this recall extend to other sunglasses distributed by StyleMark?

No. We have tested our other style sunglasses and determined that they meet CPSC regulations.

We have received no reports of injury from these products or complaints about their possible lead content.

How did StyleMark become aware that the lead content in these products may exceed standards?

The testing that led to the discovery was undertaken voluntarily and in cooperation with our retailers as a precautionary measure in light of the recent focus on lead content in various children's products. As part of StyleMark's longstanding commitment to quality assurance, we contacted the CPSC and initiated the action we are now taking.

What countries are affected by this recall?

The children's sunglasses that are affected were distributed in the United States.

How many affected products were shipped by StyleMark?

Approximately 110,000 units were sold to Payless Shoes, Walgreen's, CVS and Academy Sports. We estimate through our sales reports that approximately 30,000 of these units were sold to consumers.

How do I know if I have a pair of sunglasses affected by this recall?

All of the sunglasses have Style#DI25K7116 printed on the inside of the temple arm and the words "Main Street Drag" printed on the outside of each temple arm.

What should consumers do if they believe they have a product affected by this recall?

Consumers who have purchased these sunglasses should stop using the sunglasses and send them back to us. If unsure you may call 866.928.1913 and speak to a representative. Otherwise, follow the instructions listed below to send for a free replacement.

How will StyleMark ensure that no affected product will be sold going forward?

Recalled products will be removed from retail shelves. Additionally, all shipments of children's sunglasses will not be distributed to any of our retailers or distributors until the products have been determined to be in compliance with CPSC regulations.
